A little over a month ago, I submitted an image I took during a recent session to The Storyteller Magazine in hopes it would get published in their “indoor” themed edition. A little tidbit about me, I never submit my work places. I do not have a habit of submitting to publications or even small little contests in the industry. I don’t think I’m a technically perfect photographer – which I don’t want to be! My main goal is always to capture your life the way you want it remembered. And I think I’m pretty darn good at that too! But the idea of my work being scrutinize by others in the industry makes me feel so inferior. So I submitted on a whim and a few weeks later I found out that I had been selected. I would officially become a published photographer!
There were tears shed. Very happy tears! My husband and kids were so proud of me. My parents, of course, always knew I was capable and are my biggest cheerleaders. And me? I was actually annoyed! Typical, right?! You see, the image I originally submitted was not the image they chose to publish. All were great but the one I wanted was AMAZING! How could they not see that?! The good news is that I’ve gotten over it (kinda, maybe…) and I’m so happy and proud that I’m officially a published photographer.
