The weather is warming which only means one thing: time to start booking your sunset family photography session! These sessions are only offered May through October so we don’t have to fight with Nebraska weather too much. When you schedule your sunset session, we will discuss my preferred locations and find one that fits your family perfectly.
Hitchcock Nature Center in Iowa happens to be one of my preferred locations. It has beautiful rolling hills and overlooks a valley making it the perfect spot for sunset watching. I knew it was the perfect spot for this family of trail runners.
We always meet at the location about an hour before sunset which gives us gorgeous, flattering light and we shoot until we run out of light.
Sunset sessions are a little different than in-home lifestyle sessions as they are more directed, but still very much about being natural and authentic…as natural and authentic as one can be in front of a camera and frolicking through tall grass.
Though I’d like every session to run perfectly like a well-scripted play, sometimes we have to roll with the punches. Like when you have the perfect weather, the perfect location, the perfect family…but a mosquito outbreak during prime West Nile outbreak season. What can you do but load up on repellant and laugh your way through the session?
My ultimate goal with every family session is for every family to have a good time. I want moms to forget about their complicated schedule of kid events. I want kids to relax and have fun with their parents. I want dads to realize family pictures aren’t really that bad after all. Your family session isn’t about stressing you out. It’s a day filled with togetherness and being connected and having fun with each other. The gorgeous photos? Well, that’s just the cherry on top.
