When I recently relaunched my business, I made some changes – or, shall I say, improvements – to how I decided to things. The biggest change I made is offering two different types of family photography sessions. I previously only offered in-home sessions. Now, I offer two different types of sessions: In-home Lifestyle Sessions and On-location Sunset Sessions.
Why the change?
It’s no secret that I push the in-home sessions. You are more relaxed. Your kids act more themselves. I’m able to capture more authentic moments. But there are many families who just aren’t comfortable with allowing a stranger into their home to do this. And, some people (cough, cough…men…cough, cough) actually do better being told what to do.
Let’s breakdown the differences.
In home Lifestyle Sessions
This is the best for families who truly want to capture their family in its element. There is no posing or forced smiles. These sessions are relaxed and fun and they capture those moments and details that, as a parent, are exactly the way you want to remember your family.
These sessions are planned using details provided by you. This ensures I capture your real, authentic selves. There is no posing, just light direction. This allows the real connections and reactions to occur.
On location Sunset Sessions
On-location sunset sessions are the perfect option for families not wanting pictures in their home. These take place at an agreed upon location of your choice an hour prior to sunset and we shoot until the sun goes down.
These tend to have heavier direction but you can still expect your photos to be authentically captured and filled with real connections.
Which should you pick?
Both sessions are the same price, they both offer the same packages, and I provide the same amount of images for each one too. If you’re wanted a peek into your life, do the in-home. If glowing skies, beautiful scenes and guided portraits are more your thing, do the sunset session.
But…I think everyone needs to do both because each one is unique and offers something the other can’t. Either way, you win.
Bottom Line
Family pictures are important. They are the one thing you can look back on and pass down to future generations. Plus, your session is a celebration of your love for one another. A time to forget about all other pressing matters, enjoy your family, and just be.
